Forest Acres, South Carolina
Reliable Plumbing You Can Count On
Trusted by families and businesses alike, from leaks to installations, we cover it all.
Forest Acres sits about 14 miles east of our Lexington shop, tucked between Columbia and Fort Jackson as its own small, independent city even though Columbia surrounds it on nearly every side. It's one of the more unusual places we serve: a city founded in 1935 specifically so its residents could get federal funding for a water system, and one that ran its own water utility for more than fifty years before finally joining Columbia's system in 1990.

About the Area
A Look at Forest Acres
Long before it was Forest Acres, this wooded high ground northeast of Columbia was known as Quinine Hill, a cool, mosquito-free retreat from the capital's summer heat back in the 1800s. The push to formally incorporate came in 1935, led by developer John Hughes Cooper and State Senator James Hammond, and water was the real reason behind it: becoming an incorporated town let residents qualify for a federal Works Progress Administration grant to build a municipal water system. The new city took its name from Cooper's Forest Land Company, which had already named half the streets in the area Forest this or Forest that. Forest Acres grew slowly at first, with only 323 residents by 1940, then jumped past 3,200 within a decade as World War II brought a wave of personnel connected to nearby Fort Jackson. That building boom left Forest Acres with some of the most distinctive post-war houses in the Midlands, and the city still runs its own government today even though Columbia wraps around it on almost every side.
Plumbing Considerations
What Makes Forest Acres Different
Forest Acres ran its own independent water system from its founding in 1935 until 1990, when the city finally joined Columbia's water system rather than continuing to operate one of its own. That's more than fifty years on a separate, smaller municipal system, serving a city that didn't even have its own police department until 1962 and still depends on Columbia for fire protection rather than running a department of its own. The housing stock tells a similar story: a large share of Forest Acres homes went up during that late-1940s and 1950s building boom, which means plenty of original cast iron drain lines and galvanized supply pipe that have now outlasted both the city's original water system and several decades of its successor. A service call here tends to look different than one in a newer subdivision, since the pipe in the ground and the pipe inside the house are often close to the same age as the city's charter.

Comprehensive Services
Full-Service Plumbing for Forest Acres
Forest Acres homes from the postwar boom give us a specific kind of work: cast iron drains that have slowly narrowed with decades of buildup, and galvanized supply lines that corrode from the inside without ever showing an obvious sign until pressure drops or the water changes color. Our equipment picks up on that kind of slow failure long before a ceiling stain or a soft spot in the yard would. An older home's trouble sometimes sits below the slab instead of inside a wall, and our technicians know how to get to it with a minimal opening rather than a full foundation dig. We also run and on drains that have never been fully cleared out, long overdue for an upgrade, and take on of every kind that comes with a city built mostly in one specific era. For anything outside that list, our full list of services covers the rest of what Forest Acres residents call us for.

Why Choose Us
Why Choose Dr Rooter in Forest Acres
A city built mostly within one fifteen-year stretch has a pretty consistent set of plumbing quirks, and our technicians know them well: original cast iron overdue for a liner or a full reline, galvanized pipe that's been slowly choking off water pressure for years, and fixtures swapped out once sometime in the 1970s or 80s and never touched since. We stock parts for that specific era, not just what works in new construction, which saves a second trip when a fitting needs to match something that old. The house's age changes what's inside the walls, not how we treat the person who lives there: a licensed, background-checked technician shows up either way, and the cost is laid out before anything gets started.
