Pipe repair and replacement built to protect your Lexington home

A failing pipe rarely announces itself all at once. It shows up as a damp patch on the ceiling, a water bill that keeps climbing, or water that runs a little cloudy no matter how long you let the tap flow. By the time any of that is obvious, the pipe behind it has usually been struggling for a while.

Dr Rooter repairs and replaces water supply, drain, and sewer piping for homes and businesses throughout Lexington and the greater Columbia area. We diagnose first with a camera or pressure test, walk you through what we find in plain language, and then match the repair method to the actual damage instead of defaulting to the most invasive option available. Sometimes that means a targeted trenchless fix. Sometimes it means a full repipe. We tell you which one your situation calls for and why.

  • Video camera diagnosis before any repair recommendation
  • Trenchless repair options that avoid tearing up your yard or floors
  • Upfront pricing before work begins, no surprise add-ons
  • Licensed plumbers with 25+ years serving Lexington and Columbia

Why Choose Us

Why Lexington homeowners trust Dr Rooter with pipe repair

4.9 stars from 766+ Google reviews · Plumbing Repair & Installation · Licensed and insured

Pipe work is not a place to guess. A repair that looks fine on the surface but ignores the underlying cause tends to fail again within a year, often somewhere else in the same line. Our approach is to diagnose thoroughly, explain what we found, and repair or replace based on the actual condition of the pipe, not the fastest thing to bill.

  • Same-day service available for active leaks and pipe emergencies
  • Respectful of your property, drop cloths and shoe covers on every visit
  • Licensed, insured, and locally operated in Lexington since 1999
  • Certified technicians trained on copper, PEX, CPVC, cast iron, and clay pipe systems

Local Know-How

Why Lexington's clay soil is hard on underground pipes

Much of Lexington County sits on Cecil and related soil series, mapped by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service as sandy clay loams with a dense clay subsoil layer beginning just a few inches down. Clay-heavy ground like this swells when it's saturated and shrinks as it dries out, and that repeated movement puts steady pressure on anything buried in it.

Ground movement around buried lines. Underground water and sewer lines sit directly in that shifting clay. Over years, the movement can separate joints, crack rigid pipe, or create a low spot, sometimes called a belly, where a section of pipe settles and water stops draining freely through it.

Heavier rain events add stress. The Midlands sees periods of intense rainfall, particularly during the region's hurricane season stretching from June through November. Saturated soil expands fastest right after these events, which is when older or already-compromised pipe sections are most likely to crack or separate.

Older neighborhoods carry older pipe. Homes built before the 1980s in the Lexington and Columbia area were commonly plumbed with galvanized steel or cast iron, both of which corrode from the inside over decades. That corrosion narrows the pipe and roughens its interior, which is a big part of why older homes see more frequent clogs even with normal use.

How It Works

Our simple, reliable process

  1. 1

    Call or request service online.

Reach us at (803) 761-9935 or through our online form, and we'll get a technician scheduled, same-day when it's an active leak or emergency.

  2. 2

    On-site diagnosis.

We inspect the affected pipe, using a video camera or pressure test when the damage isn't visible, to find the actual cause rather than guessing from the symptom.

  3. 3

    Review your options.

We walk you through what we found and the repair methods that fit it, along with straightforward pricing for each, before any work starts.

  4. 4

    Repair or replace.

Our technicians complete the agreed-upon work, whether that's a targeted trenchless repair or a full section replacement, and clean up the work area when finished.

What's included in our pipe repair and replacement service

A pipe visit from Dr Rooter is built to confirm the fix actually holds, not just patch the visible symptom. Every service call includes:

  • Video camera inspection of the affected line
  • Pressure testing to confirm the extent of the damage
  • Identification of pipe material and condition (copper, PEX, CPVC, cast iron, galvanized, clay)
  • Inspection of nearby fittings and joints for related wear
  • The repair or replacement itself, using the method that matches the damage
  • A post-repair verification check before we consider the job done

We also walk you through what likely caused the failure, so you know whether it's an isolated issue or a sign that more of the system is due for attention.

Built around your needs

Licensed plumbers with real experience. Our technicians are trained and licensed to work on the full range of materials found in Lexington homes, from original cast iron to modern PEX.

Transparent pricing, no hidden fees. You'll know the cost of the repair before we start, with no surprise charges added afterward.

Responsive service with accountability. If something about the repair doesn't sit right after we leave, we stand behind the work and come back to make it right.

Warning Signs

Signs it's time to schedule a full plumbing inspection

A single pipe repair fixes what's in front of you, but it's worth checking whether the rest of the system is heading the same direction. Consider scheduling a full diagnostics and troubleshooting visit if you notice:

  • More than one leak or repair needed within the same year
  • Water pressure that's dropped gradually across the whole house
  • Pipes original to a home built before 1985
  • Recurring clogs in multiple drains, not just one fixture

Catching a systemic issue early is almost always less disruptive than waiting for a second failure.

Membership Program

Ask about the Plumb Perfect Club

Pipe failures are easier to prevent than repair. Members of the Plumb Perfect Club get scheduled system checks that catch corrosion, slow leaks, and pressure problems before they turn into an emergency call.

  • Priority scheduling ahead of non-member appointments
  • Routine inspection of pipes, fixtures, and water heater condition
  • Member pricing on any repairs found during a visit

Ask our team which membership tier fits your home when you call.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

The most common signs are a sudden or gradual drop in water pressure, discolored or rusty-looking water, damp spots on walls or ceilings, and a water bill that's climbed without an obvious reason. Any one of these on its own is worth a call; two or more together usually means the issue is active.

Stop a small pipe problem before it becomes a big one

A pipe issue rarely stays small. What starts as a slow drip or a faint discoloration in your water can turn into a burst line, a damaged ceiling, or a sewer backup if it's left alone. Whether you're dealing with a single leak or wondering if it's time to repipe an older section of your home, Dr Rooter can tell you exactly what you're facing and what it takes to fix it right.

We also handle emergency plumbing, leak detection, and drain cleaning, so if a pipe issue turns out to be connected to something else in your system, we can handle that in the same visit.
